I don't think the price will be anywhere near 80-100 for an eighth of an ounce. The legalization would result loss of jobs for the smuggling and selling of cannabis. Assuming quantity remains the same, if the market gets legalized I would not expect a drop in quality (this isn't gov't grown pot, they would be destroying many pre-existing farms in the US).
a $98 per ounce taxes gives you a 12.5 dollars an eighth tax. Chances are that the price will comes down to 30-40 dollars an eighth. No more 100% markup for the sellers.
Awesome is right. You aren't going to actually kill the market unless it is cheaper that it is on the black market. I think that can be done fairly easily.

as for where cannabis sees itself, I don't think it can think that far ahead.

What about the quality of the marijuana? How would government control of the growing of it effect the quality? I mean who is willing to shell out $80-100 for 1/8 of b-ster weed. I'd rather drink cough syrup and call it a day.

Would you still have the assortment that there is now (i.e. bubblegum, blueberry, trainwrecks, hindu kush, etc.) or would there just be one kind? I realize that these are minor details when all your talking about is the legalization of it, however this would effect sales greatly. It doesn't matter if it is legal, your still gonna have alot of people that would rather buy really good stuff from the questionable guy on the corner for $50 as oppose to a government sponsored $80-100 bag of b-ster weed.
